WoodFirE

I have been passionate about wood firing for over 30 years. My journey became truly meaningful when I moved to Molokai, where I co-founded the Molokai Arts Center with a group of dedicated artist and potters. We built a small kiln and primarily fire with Kiawe—an abundant mesquite wood that’s well-suited to our environment.

My connection to wood firing is rooted in its communal aspects and its rich Japanese traditions, which I find deeply inspiring. I enjoy sharing techniques, stories, and challenges with fellow artists, fostering a strong community through this craft. Each woodfire kiln eventually develops its unique traditions and character, and I am passionate about continuing and evolving this legacy.

I work closely with other artists to explore and preserve the art of wood firing. It’s a craft I love, and one that continually inspires me through its history, community, and the raw beauty of the finished pieces.
